NOAA Aviation Digital Data Service A full complement of METARs, TAFs, SIGMETS and PIREPS, complemented with winds aloft reports, turbulence and convection, prog charts and even an experimental icing chart. Satellite photos and radar images also available, as long-range and short-range animated images. NOAA Aviation Weather Center This site contains a full range of aviation weather products, notably a Standard Briefing page that allows the pilot to check the weather, then follow along with a briefer during a standard briefing, seeing the charts and maps the briefer sees as the briefer interprets them. If you primarily brief over the phone, this will dramatically improve your understanding of weather and weather briefings. Pilot Weather Briefing A comprehensive but unofficial source of preflight weather briefing, this site combines the developer’s favorite sources of aviation weather information into one package. Therefore, some of the weather products are actually links to official weather sources, while others are not. The Weather Channel A good all-around source for weather information, but the aviation section is limited to maps of winds, temperatures, and potential icing and IFR conditions. Flight Planning Tools Aeroplanner.com Free section provides some resources, most notably a section on TFRs that will plot the area on a map. Free access also includes Sectionals and WACs. Finding the free information requires some work, as it is hidden in links for subscription products. Complete access requires paid subscription of $4.95 per month or $49.94 per year for basic membership. Includes weather information, TFRs and Notams, instrument approach procedures, weight & balance calculator and pilot logbook. Airnav.com General information on airports, navaids, intersections and fuel availability. Site lets users access and report on airport facilities, including FBOs and restaurants, and to report recent fuel prices. Flight planner will pick airports for mid-trip stops based on approach procedures, fuel availability, length or fuel cost, or you can select the route manually.
